There are two routes of the Heritage Walk one is the Beyond Taj Walk and the other one is Great Mughal Side Walk.The Beyond Taj Walk starts from Taj Mahal then Sandli Masjid, Ban- Walo ki Bagichi, Dargah Ahmed Bukhari, Haathi Khana and this tour ends on Haveli Khan –I Dauran. The second Heritage tour is the Great Mughal River side Wall which starts from Batees Khamba then goes to Gaushala, Ram Bagh, Zohra Bagh, Chini ka Rauza, The tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah, Gyarah Sidi and this tour ends at Mehtab Bagh.

Agra Heritage Walk The Beyond Taj Mahal

You will be picked up at your hotel in Agra at 3:30 pm and proceed to the heritage walk as per the below monument wise —

Sandli Masjid
Overshadowed by the Taj Mahal, sits a monument built in the memory of Kandhari Begum, the first wife of Mughal emperor Shahjahan. Popularly known as Sandali mosque. Shahjahan’s first wife, Kandhari Begum, died in 1666 and was buried at Sandali mosque. Sandali mosque, also known as Kali Masjid, Jinnati Masjid as well as ‘billion wali masjid’, is a three arched, single dome mosque dedicated to Kandhari Begum. She was the youngest daughter of Safavid prince Sultan Muzaffar Husain Mirza Safavi and hailed from the family which are known as the founders of the Safavid dynasty of Persia, the mosque. She married Shahjahan in 1609, at the age of 15.

Ban Walo Ki Bagichi
Ban-Walo ki Bagichi was a private garden area of a family from the Baniya community. Their main proffesion was to weave ropes. the comminity still works in Agra.

Haathi Khana Gate
The gate is supposed to have lead to the place where elephants were housed. In the time of Shahjahan this gate was used the elephants who used to carry the material for the construction of Taj Mahal. Hathi Khana, which is a gateway and probably, as the name suggests, was the entry point to the area where elephants were kept. Tt is said that is was built by Jahangir.

Dargah of Ahmed Bukhari
Duing the condtruction of Taj Mahal, obstacles appered everyday. To overcome this Shah Jhan (The Emperor who built Taj Mahal) invited the Bukharo brothersfrom Bukhara to oversee the construction. Once they took the charge, the work resumed without a glitch (without any difficulty). It is said that the tombs of four brothrs guird the Taj Mahal and Agra city even today. This is the omb of Ahmed Bukhari.

Haveli of Khan-I Dauran and Agha Khan
Khan-I Dauran was a fierce warior who commanded Shah Jahan’s forces during the deccan wars Agha Khan was an eunach in the service of Mahmtaj Mahal. Their Havelis are adjecent.
